The Importance of Bible Time

I know that you’ve probably heard this before, and that you’ll hear it again, but-

Bible time is so important!

I can’t emphasize this enough! When I’m able to get some truly private time in with God, it is so wonderful and refreshing. Even if you’re babysitting and don’t have your Bible, take some time to reflect- on Who God is, on His promises, on doctrinally-sound hymns, or on Bible verses that you have memorized (preferably when the kids you’re watching are taking naps, in the babysitting situation 😉 ).

2 Timothy 3:16, 17 says that “all Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” The Bible is profitable for many things! Are you willing to take the time to study it? 2 Timothy 2:15 says, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” We need to take time to read and study the Word of truth, so that we will know that there is no need to be ashamed of it. When we know God’s Word well, we are better able to witness to unbelievers.

In a large family like mine, it’s often difficult to find a quiet place. But please, take some time to seek out a private, quiet area in which to study the Bible and pray! It will make so much of a difference! (And I’m talking to myself here, too; I have yet to find a truly calm, quiet place and time to have Bible time.) I know from experience that it is hard to concentrate on God’s Word when there are little (or perhaps older!) siblings running around, being loud, or even just playing quietly… I’m afraid sometimes we are very easily distracted from what is really important.

James 4:8a says, “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” I’m sure we all want God to be close to us, and His Word says that if we draw nigh to Him, He will draw nigh to us! I wonder how much of a difference there would be in our lives if we took time to spend time with the Lord?

Dear friend, keep your eyes on the Lord and take time to meditate on His Word! God is truly the most important Person to focus on. Can we make time for Him, even amidst busy lives?
